Embroidery
These are images of hand embroidered panels designed by Andrew Goldman, together with Ethiopian Artists Mentwab Easwaran and Zewedu Gebre Michael.
Each panel is forty-two centimeters square and was embroidered in a community cooperative on the NACOEJ Compound in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia by heads of Jewish families who were waiting in Ethiopia for their turn to immigrate to Israel.
The Embroidery Program which Andrew Goldman designed and managed employed an average of 700-900 people per month for over 16 years. Over 170,000 panels were embroidered and sold to help fund programs for Ethiopian Jews in Ethiopia and Israel.
